American frames were heavily influenced by architectural mouldings and European designs. Early styles featured heavy ornamentation, but soon gave way to a more simplistic aesthetic. The typical American style became characterized by a more streamlined linear frame with a curved scoop. The scoop frame and fluted cove soon became the look that defined the American style and that continues to this day.
