February 23 – March 11, 2017

Handwright Gallery is proud to present 23 paintings by noted French painter Henri Biva and his French-American son, Lucien.

Henri Biva
Henri was a plein-air painter whose work focused on the beauty of the French landscape before industrialization. Carefully detailed, richly textured and luminescent, his paintings soon caught the attention of collectors all over Europe, cementing his status as one of the most successful artists in France.

Lucien Biva
Lucien came from a family with a long history of artists so it was no surprise when he took up the brush himself. He began his artistic career in France, but soon immigrated to the United States to make a name for himself. Lucien eventually settled in the Catskills, drawing his inspiration from the natural environment around him.
