Timeless New England: A Mortimer H. Slotnick Retrospective opens at the Handwright
Gallery in New Canaan with a public reception from 5:30 – 8pm on October, 12. The
show runs through November 4.
Slotnick’s work has been compared to the poetry of Robert Frost – simple and realistic,
serene and haunting. The paintings and drawings in the show celebrate a vanishing
American countryside, taking what were once common images and turning them into
luminous works of color and light. They reflect the beauty and tranquility of the New
England landscape, photographic in detail, and with keen attention and balance in
composition. The viewer is drawn into each scene, experiencing nature at its purest.
