James Coe: “My paintings are a reflection of how I perceive the world: for me, a place is always characterized by the birds or animals that I heard or saw when I was at that spot. So it is very natural to want to place them into my art. But thread that truly ties all my paintings together is a bit more conceptual than that. My goal is to find in each of my works, a balance among the abstract design, the physical surface of paint and canvas and the illusions I have created, evoking light and atmosphere. If I am successful, then I will have conveyed a sense of place and time and shared my reverence for the land, its wildlife and our rural heritage.”
