“There are moments when the sight of something becomes a meditative state that flows into both a serious and playful stroke of brush or pastel. A state where my mind’s eye lets my hand put colors, light, shapes and shadow into a picture outside of myself that is in harmony with the most mundane but cherished subjects. With effort and time, a reality from my chiaroscuro approach coalesces into a vibrant, dramatic or moody work on canvas or paper. And sometimes, when it all comes together, I have a picture that I’m happy to be able to show as an expression of my joy of life.”
