JAN BLENCOWE

“Outdoor sketching and painting are the core of my practice. I find direct observation and contact with nature both personally transforming and essential to the work I do in the studio. Beauty may seem like a quaint notion in art. However, nature is no stranger to the ugly, cold realities of competition for resources, death and decay. Yet, there she is, beautiful in all times and seasons, a web of life that renews itself age after age. I believe it is the beautiful in nature, with even death and decay being beautiful, and in all of life, that is the remedy for all that is ugly and tragic. In a gesture of healing and hope I count beauty as the primary value in my work.”
